Hi Folks,
Some of you may have heard me briefly describe a project during my presentations in January at Verona, NY, and at the Vermont January Maple Conferences.
We are looking at how several factors affect sap yields in vacuum tubing systems.
If you grabbed a survey and mailer after my presentations, please complete them and send them in along with your tubing samples. You can collect the tubing samples during tapping, or early in the season. Please send them in as we need a lot of samples to get enough data for this to be useful.
For those who weren't at my presentations....participating involves:
1. You must be collecting sap in the 2011 season with tubing on vacuum.
2. Complete the survey found at http://www.uvm.edu/~pmrc/PMRC-SurveyB.pdf describing your system and how you manage it.
3. Collecting 5-10 3" long pieces of tubing from your dropline (near the spout) during tapping or early in the season (NOW).
4. Sending the survey and tubing (put tubing in a plastic bag) to:
Dr. Tim Perkins
UVM Proctor Maple Res Ctr
P.O. Box 233
Underhill Ctr., VT 05490
5. We will contact you at the end of the season to get your 2011 sap or syrup yield data.
All those submitting complete surveys, samples, and 2011 yield data will be entered into a drawing for one of three $100 gift certificates from a maple equipment dealer.
We are especially interested in getting data from producers in NH, NY, Maine, and MA in order to keep the season variability low, however producers in other areas may also participate.
More info is on the survey. Please let me know if you have any questions.
