got out 550 of my 700 taps....just an observation.... maybe its my imagination but are the trees in southern vt budding out already?

Some Softs are showing red color in northern vermont......
We got out 1400 buckets on Saturday with 200 more to go but we also got 3 feet of snow Monday.. Yippy

nothin down here is even close to budding. We've only had about 4 days in the 40s, and now everything is covered in ice. I'd say we've got a long time to go yet

I have never liked a winter with a lot of snow as it usually makes for a short season, but I don't think that short.

The softs here in pa are the size of pencil erasers. Still getting sap. 200 gallons from 150 trees. the other day

The flower buds on red maples often appear quite swollen even in winter. I have a hard time believing anything is budding in VT.

DItto! A red maple will look like the buds are ready to pop even in January.

Hard to say since the the buds here are still encased in 1/2" of ice...but I really don't think so.
