Boiled 4 times so far and made 28 gallons of fancy whats the deal? I'm not complaining but I never make much fancy (golden). We haven't realy had a good run yet in western N Y. Sap has been testing 2.2-2.4 on buckets and 1.4-1.6 in my woods, sap I've been buying has been 2-2.2 . So far so good,Good luck to you all,Jim:)

This is my first year with a sap hydrometer, and I really can't believe the numbers I have been seeing. Nearly every bucket I have brought in has read between 2 1/4% and 2 3/4% with a few buckets over 3%. Sounds like it is the same on the other side of northern Wyoming County too.
I had 1.2 yesterday on trees that usually run 2.5-3. Hopefully its just early and my sugar picks up.
Other people I've talked to in this area are still seeing low numbers as well.

I'm in WNY also, last run I had 2.3%. The first run off the evap a couple weeks ago was medium (sap was 1.4%) and now it's up to light. For some reason it tastes really good, almost buttery. Maybe it's all in my head though...

The word "buttery" has come up several times in the WNY area this year. I had one batch that had that same description for as well.
