I have the opportunity to buy 3 sheets of 4ft by 8ft stainless.
I am not sure the thickness but the guy says he bought if to make a belly pan for his atv (if figure 16 or 18ga).

I was thinking about turning one of them into a 2x4 pan. Do any of you know what this would be worth? The seller looking for $400 for the three sheets.

Thanks,
Jim

There's nothing wrong with that price. I think I paid $260 for a 4 x 8 sheet of 16 gauge 316 mill finish(4b I believe). That was discounted price! If there 304 or 316 I would buy them.

Unless the price of stainless has changed considerably in the last month I've been buying new stainless for $1.50 per pound no matter the thickness. A 4X8 @18 guage weighs about 65 lbs and 16 guage weighs 80 lbs. For reference on the weight I used the link below. Where I buy my metal it is actually weighed.

Not much different up here in Ontario, I just picked up a set of 18guage for $1.75 Cdn a pound. Just over $150 for a 4x10 sheet

If these prices are good I think you would be better buying a lighter gauge, like 20 or even 22 if your welder (machine and operator) can weld it good. The lighter gauge will increase boil rate, better heat transfer. If necessary get 18.

Oh, if you have a choice get 304 bright annealed SS.
