I have a bunch of trees that are 17.5" diameter tree's that have 1 tap in them.I run 24" of vac.The question is will I benefit from a second tap?

Your vacuum should have about a 16" radius of draw.
I think a second tap might be redundant and really lower your gallons per tap a day?
Is a little more sap cost effective VS more tubing and twice the taps and tubing connectors?

Not to mention increased stress on the tree!

This is why I was asking. At what diameter is the 2nd tap beneficial?18",19",20"?

The Bible says 18" is a good conservative tapping method for a second tap under vac.Anyone else have any comments to this?

Centre Acer in Qc on their documentations said:
at chest height from soil (51")
1 tap for 8" to 16" dia.
2 taps for 16" to 24" dia.
3 taps for 24" to 32" dia.
4 taps for 32"+ dia.

I think the studies done at Univ of Vermont Proctor center
suggest the with high vacuum there is almost no gain from adding a second tap. I would take that with a little salt and say that is unless you have really really big trees.

increase your vac to 27 and fix the leaks you will make over 5 lb a tap.
