C.I.P acid cleaner tanks

This is my first year. Am currently out of storage for sap. Got some 15 gallon tanks that had cip acid cleaner in them from a local dairy farm. What do you think, can they be cleaned enough for sap storage????

Two questions, what is the tank made of and what acid was in them?

Although both stainless and plastics are porous to a degree, stainless is much easier to clean. I would guess the acid is probably similiar to milkstone remover which alot of people use to clean their evaporator pans. Although 'acid' as a general term is bad, a lot of chemicals can be properly removed with dilution and lots of rinsing.

The tanks are white plastic and say phosphoric and sulfuric acid on the tag but no concentration levels.

The corrosive warning level is 8 but don't know on what scale

yes i have used them after a thorough cleaning where dilution is the solution. once you have used it for sap cleaning is more difficult. clean as soon as you are done or you will grow black crud in them.
