how many taps can a 5/16 lateral line have on it before it connects to my 3/4 mainline? this is all gravity with good slope.

10 to 15 I was told

I have put as many as 45 on a 15 degree slope with no problem. but I find that 25 on a slope under about 5 degrees is to many

some of my lats i am putting up are going to have no more than 30 taps on them in 60 feet. one more ? is i have good fall on my 3/4 main in the first 150 feet then it drops off to about 45 degrees for the last 75 feet. will this affect my sap flow?

I think that may be too many on one lateral but I am also learning a lot on this site

you'll be fine.. have 30 on some of mine and all is good. the 3/4 inch pipe will not create any vacuum so the slope is good fro drainage. Have fun

I thought the rule of thumb was 5 - 8 taps on 5/16 to handle the sap flow. On steep grade when you are going for natural vacuum it's 10-15 per lat. You don't want to cheat yourself by constricting the flow...5/16 can only handle so much sap.

There is a big difference between a vac setup and gravity. The more sap in the tube running down hill will pull more sap out of the trees.

I have had as many as 50 taps on one 5/16" line with good success. One huge advantage is sap quality is really good as the sap doesn't have time to lay in the lines and collect bacteria as it keeps them clean.

I average around 12 to 15 per line ,Ive got a pretty steep slope for my main line ,and there always room for me to expand,no problems yet ,good luck and God bless ,Al

Steep slopes are good with up to 30 or even more IF THE SLOPE CONTINUES AFTER THE LOWEST TAP. If it levels out, go down to 10-12. To see the difference, pull the lowest tap when the sap is running good. If sap shoots up out of the tap when held straight up as if in the tree, you are putting pressure on the tree and are getting less. If the sap goes down the line without shooting up, you are good and natural vacuum is helping get more sap.
