hi i got a used 2x6 small bros lightning and have it all ready to go except for the loose fill insull in the back half. Can anyone tell me if i have to use vermiculite as previous user or can i use something else, also how much do u put in and how many humps or rolls in it? Hope this makes sence to some of u guys out there. Any help would be appreciated.:emb:

I also rescued an old sb lightning. I replaced the vermiculite with ceramic blanket. It was a raised flue pan and went all the way up to the rails, then came down the last 10 inches or so before the stack.

Yup, sand is fine - just weights more.

Yes, just one "hump" from the end of the ramp upwards to just about the height of the top rail, then back to within 10 inches or so of the smoke stack collar. Follow? Try searching the "evaporator" forum for bricking and take a look at the pictures there - maybe easier to understand than my description.
