So, this is my first year sugaring, and the man who Im learning from is off in the Carribean for a few weeks, leaving me to manage the "operation" until he's back. Im in Western Mass and tapped this time last week after that run of warm weather. We're using buckets, both metal and plastic, and all the sap is frozen in them now. What do I do? Leave them in and then boil them once they've thawed out? A simple question, but one I dont have the answer to. Thanks.

If it's all frozen solid, I'd just let it melt and not worry about it. If it's partially frozen, lots of people will throw out the ice (and save the liquid sap) as it's got far less sugar in it than pure sap.

Its all frozen . . . for sure.

Let it melt then boil it anyway?

That's what I'm planning to do. I also collected sap from last weeks warm spell and my tank is frozen solid. I'm hoping it'll thaw some later this week.
