I've been boiling for a few years on a very small scale – a few taps a year boiled in a roasting pan on top of an old Jotul stove. I'd like to move up to something a little bigger.

I think I'm going to get the Mason Hobby Evaporator from the Maple Guys (2' x 3'). It's supposedly good for up to 50 taps. Any suggestions for ways to do this most efficiently? I do have a decent number of trees in one area and could run tubing. Most are scattered about the property.

How do you collect the sap and transport it from tree to evaporator. The weather looks good for the sap to be running next week. Got to get my stuff in gear!

Thanks,
Chris

BTW, I'm looking at this as a hobby not another job! One full-time job is enough!

if you're doing 50 or less taps I would just use buckets..either hanging or 5 gals with tubing drops into it..collect into a barrel and boil as soon as possible..enjoy the season

Thanks Chris –*now just trying to find a decent-sized evaporator for a good price. They're going fast!
