Did anyone elsehappen to catch the CBS morning show yesterday. They had a segment on the danger of caramel coloring, reporting that it is a suspected carcinogen that is added to soft drinks. The good Doctor giving the report went on to say it is also added to other food products including maple syrup. They even had syrup in a leaf bottle on the table with the soft drinks and suspected products. If you go to the CBS morning show website you can read the report and watch the video of the segment. I sent them an email explaining to them that Maple Syrup does not contain any additives, but I am sure it got ignored.

It's to bad that the general public does not even have a product in there kitchen like 100% pure Maple Syrup. The fast pace world is all about fast food.

Anyone know a lawyer who can file a class action lawsuit for damages due to losses from decreased sales due to the misinformation?

I would have VT dept. of ag have a little talk with CBS. They don't take to kindly to things like this. The dept. of ag will cause something to happen other than someone deleting a bunch of bothersome emails.

I sent my disapproval message in as well. The additive they are referring to is 4-MEI which is found in almost everything you buy that is cooked. They probably want us to live on just bread and water. Too bad that even bread contains this and I'm sure they'll find something wrong with the water as well. What a joke. I think the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) should have some serious funds taken away and put else, where it would make of greater importance that this. Get real.

Think CBS messed with the wrong people. Bet the complaints list goes to a computer that is sitting in the circular file cabinent next to the desk on the floor.

When I first saw the show yesterday I was only half paying attention and when I heard Maple Syrup it really got my interest. Later I went to their website and rewatched the segment to be sure of what I heard, the kicker was the leaf bottle on the table with all the other crap.

I passed the link on to the NYSMPA's Executive Director, Helen Thomas and Association President, David Campbell this morning so they at least would know about it.

Received a response from David who then cc'd Rick Marsh, President of the North American Maple Syrup Council and asked if there was something he could do about it as well.

Might as well get the word out there!

Anyone hears anything from CBS please post! I'd love to hear their response.

Keith

I went to the link and it connected but the segment won't play. Is this happening to anyone else or has CBS frozen the video (possibly) due to the complaints.

Sent complaint feedback also to CBS. I don't see why mentioning syrup was even part of the report. If the risk is associated with an individuals cola consumption is in the "gallons per week" range what is the actual risk from using a processed syrup? An average family of five probably wouldn't consume a gallon of that artificial maple swill in a year anyway.

Something to remember when veiwing documentaries or news on CBS or indeed any of the networks. They rarely let facts get in the way of a good alarmist story.
