Lot's of O ring questions tonight - here's another one.

I went to replace my very old membranes with new XLE 4040's and have a question. On the old membranes, neither end had an O ring. On the new membrane, only one end has an O ring.

On my old vessels, raw sap enters at the bottom of the vessel and concentrate exists at the top, both on the side wall of the vessel. Permeate exits at the bottom/center of the vessel.

So, do I not need the O ring that is on the new membrane, and if I do, should the O ring be at the top or bottom of the vessel. Seems like if I used it on the bottom end of the vessel, sap would not be able to move up the vessel and if I used it at the top end, concentrate would not be able to exit the vessel. The O ring at the bottom would sit above the sap entrance, and if at the top, the O ring would sit below the concentrate exit.

Help - I've got sap to concentrate.

Just got my answer from Joe at Atlantic. O-ring, or U-cup is on the sap inlet side of the vessel.
