I had my releaser checks freeze up last night due to temps. So today was a good warm up. My system is 10 miles away and remote. Should I let nature do its thing or take a special ride to free it up? Also, was thinking about putting pump on a thermostatic switch for really cold periods. Maybe set it for like 15 degrees or less. What do you do with yours. Thanks

After my last sap pick up of the day I fill with gas and let it run as long as there is sap coming down the lines. Most mornings the sap is coming in from gravity even when its early and it still seems to cold for sap flow.

It kind of depends on the weather, but you're going to want to clear the ice out of the releaser if you can. Sap was running strong this morning at 6:30 while I was tapping. It must have been colder 1/2 mile away at the releaser. When I came down at 9:30, releaser was still frozen solid. Lost 3 hours of vacuum. Also, an iced releaser has a tendancy to jam causing sap to begin making its way to your moisture trap or pump.

@ Haynes What you can do for your gas powered vac pump is what I did for my gernerator last year. I have a 15 gal aux fuel tank that I use to fuel my lawn mower and other small engines in the summer and fall. What I did was put a check valve on my generator fuel pump and then put a small valve and a tee in the fuel line. Then I tied the 15 gal fuel tank into the fuel line. The thing would run for several days straight. With the check valve I also could run both tanks at the same time cause the flow would always be there.
Just a thought to allow you to get 24 hr vac.

Or another option, is in the attached photo of what I will be doing. The tank fitting is made by Kimpex (#300512, $13CAN).
Two fill-ups/24hrs., I think with my 13hp Honda.

That pretty much sums up what I was doing. Only difference is my tank is steel and would hold 15 gals.
Maybe another step you could take on that gas can could be like a hydraulic quick release fitting.
