Hi everyone, Im Chief62 and im a newbie. I joined the forum last year, after "catching" the bug. Went and seen a friend boil one night and said, wow i wanna do it. I have a woods of mine own and said "game on". Walked through the woods marking my maples and counted them. Decided to stick with 50 or less trees. My friends said your crazy! Thats a lot. Well, lets see what happens. Started flowing REALLY well. backed down to 35 trees. Found a guy to take my syrup and he split it 50/50 for cooking and bottling. Ended up with 500 gal sap and 5 3/4 gal bottle syrup. Made me happy! Now it's official, im hooked. Decided to buy some pans this year, and build my own evap. Called Jim Schumacher, debated and listened to some advise and ordered my pans. Hope to have the "garden shed" turned into a sugar shack and be fully operational for 2012. I have a four wheeler and a kick butt homemade trailer with a tank for my sap hauler. Using bags for now, probably switching to buckets and tubing next year. Tapping my own trees and helping a friend run his sugar camp this year, just adding my sap to his this year and bottling there for helping out. Saves on the 50/50 deal. When i figure this thing out i'll post some pics as the "remodel" goes on. Thanks for a great site and i may be bugging some of you for info, thanks in advance. Hope to see my pans soon Jim, Thanks!
