Monday the flow stopped due to single digit temps. This afternoon the flow started agian (31 degrees and sunny), and tonight 22 and tomorrow it is suposed to be around 40. What do you do about the sap that has been frozen the tanks since Monday? I'm sure it won't thaw tomorrow.

it will thaw once fresh sap comes in, my tanks all have a bit of ice in them and its great cause it will help keep the new sap cool on these warm days we have coming. being frozen the sap wont spoil so its still good dont worry

Yep, ditto on the frozen sap. It will thaw rather quickly when you get the sap flowing into the tanks. I've found that the sap will get pretty warm on those sunny days and just about melt all the ice in a day or two.

Got so cold here this past cold spell, I had 5 and 6 gallon buckets freeze nearly solid. I'd like to keep them for chilling the sap this week, but I'm having to melt them right now on my evap so I have the storage come Sunday/Monday when this big run really hits. Also had one of my full 60 gallon barrels freeze all but about 20 gallons in the core.

By the time the end of March comes, you will be wishing your sap tanks would freeze. But for now let your sap run into your tank if there is room. If not, find another tank. Warm days will be here soon and we will all be wishing our tanks had ice in them.
