I recently bought a used flat bottom pan. Does leak of course.
I can`t really see a hole,seems to leak at front of partitions.Water
is dripping from seam. I thought it was SS but pro metal man
says it is tin plate and can be soldiered. Can I use a torch on
it and do like a copper joint on water pipes. 6 months to go.

The guys at leader use old fashion solder irons; that is what I use, and use a cutting torch to heat them up. A propane torch on the flat bottom of the pan could warp the bottom and put ripples in it causing the pan to have high and low spots that may cause problems later. Hope it helps!!

I agree with Brian use a good sized iron like 1"dia. X 4-6" long. it will hold the heat better. If the pan is old and you use a torch you will end up with more holes than you started with. Beaware of lead in the old pan, you don't want to use harsh cleaners on the pan or it will expose the lead and will give you high lead count in your syrup. Give it a try and see how it works for you. Some times it is best to take it to leader or someone that does soldering for a living. They make it look so simple.
