No, that was the old design that everyone has or had been talking about. The new one's are a lot better. They work good. And Lapierre stood behind the old releaser's and replaced them. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong.

I was also interested in the hobby releaser, but some dealer whose name I won't mention (Bascom) talked me out of it because they have complaints all the time. Last year, this year... I want one but don't want a problem. So, it's just up in the air. They need to fix this problem because there is a lot of demand for under 500 tap bushes.

ALHB when did I wont mention the name (Bascoms) talk you out of buying one? I was at the understanding they solved the design problem and they are good now. Only asking because I might be in the market for one soon.

I was told by Tom from Lapierre that the problems have been resolved. I hope so- I have two of the new ones. This will be the third replacement for each of the units- to their credit, Lapierre has stood by them all the way through...

i talked to to ronni sheltra at lapierre on thursday. he said the problem was fixed. he said the main problem with them was once the releaser would dump somtimes it wouldn't close and start vacuum again just wondering what problems you have had?

If one were to walk up to one on the shelf today, how would one know if they're getting an older (problematic) model or a new (remedied) releaser? Did they recall the old ones?

i was up there tusday and i asked if they could order me one because they dont keep the hobby in stalk. they said 5 out of 6 they sold were sent back last year. the floats not big enough or something so it dose not dump right. they are around $650, so im going to hold off on it.

how many taps you planning to put on this? i have 80 taps on a modern dairy style washer, works well so far, not a true hi tech one but only about 200 plus 20 bucks in check valves and fittings to add to it. go to http://www.partsdeptonline.com and search 289701 Bucket Washer

as for the hobby 500 a local sugarmaker has 2 of them he bought when they first came out, had nothing but trouble, sent back the lid and mechanism and they sent him 2 improved replacements and they have been trouble free ever since he says. they are a very simple design when you look at them up close, and i dont think that they are anything too troubling to tinker with, ie add weight to the float like the old bender releasers if needed for the vac release
