anyone ever use black plastic pails? I can get a bunch of 4gallon ones from a deli but I'm thinking they might warm up the sap later in the season. I do collect and cook everyday if anyone thinks that makes a difference.

I asked the same question last year and got some good advice:

If you're collecting every day you're probably just fine. In my case I sometimes go 2-3 days without collecting so I 'played it safe' and didn't get them.

yes we use some, and they do warm up later in the season, we put them in the hemlocks where it cooler, they will thaw out quicker than the white pails......

I got a bunch of black pails in 13 litre, 16, 20, and 25 litre sizes. They're all right to use, they do keep the sap ice free longer or thaw the ice that was in there faster, and they were FREE!
