When is everyone in MA tapping? Hopefully we freeze up for another week or two because I could tap in a week if the temps warm up but that's pushing it. It will be more like two weeks before I tap.

The long range forecast is showing that next week could be sporting some nice weather. I'm keeping an eye on it. The important thing is if that good weather sticks around.

I have no idea myself, just waiting for the right weather. Since this is my first time doing it and only doing 10 taps I can go at the drop of a hat. I was planning to do it on the 17th, but if by Friday the forecast for next week stays nice I might do it this weekend.

I'm mostly just going to keep an eye on the weather and here.

I'm going with my gut and going to start tapping today (insert you're too early gasp here!) I have 2 prior seasons history to go on and this is the earliest by only 6 days. With last years debacle, I don't want to miss out on any sap. Our rationed stock of syrup has run out & this weeks forecast looks good. I will keep everyone posted. Good luck to you all.

Well we started to tap this weekend. We put out about 130 with about 40 or more next weekend. Without snowshoes, tapping wouldnt be possible. Get your snowshoes out if you can find them.

I'm going to put up some buckets and tubes weds and thursday. last year was such a bust I don't want to miss it again this year.
The weather is good now till sunday when they are saying cold again then but I don't know whats happening after that.
I'm not really ready to boil but some sap in the tank would boost the spirits

I was only planning to tap one tree today to see if the sap was flowing and to get a glass of sap to usher in the beginning of spring. Well one thing led to another and I tapped all of them :emb:

Wish I had the equipment to test the sugar content.

my buckets are filling up today, at lunch it was over 50 degrees. With the wind thats said to come tonight i hope there still hanging tomorrow. I hope this year is not as fast as last year with temps so high so early.

For some reason, my taps are not running as well as they did during the warm spell last week. I hope I have enough to boil tonight.

Oh man, I'm so envious. By the time I get home from work I'm fighting the dark, so hopefully this thaw sticks around and I can get out there Saturday.

I'd be interest to know that as well. I know you said you tap a lot of Norway maples and that's all I'm tapping.

I think I averaged a little less then .5 gallon of sap per tap today.

Ya, farm boy i would already be tapping if i didnt have to help some looser hang tubbing.

i have not checked the content yet. i did not collect yesterday due to the wind that was coming. i wanted it to hold the buckets on the trees so i wouldnt have to chase them. i will check it tomorrow cause its frozen now. i will report back thursday with results.

I started tapping today. Put in 90-100 taps on tubing. I still have 35 more trees to tap on tubing. Then I'll put up a few dozen buckets Sunday or Monday. BIGSAP will be here shortly because I'm not prepared.

Have almost all my expected 38 taps in.
Had a fairly good showing on Monday.
For today I was planning on not even checking the buckets. It's bitterly cold and I was sure the trees have frozen up. But apparently some of my trees did not read the weather forecast and were running.
Once I removed all the ice, I collected over 15 gallons. Not bad for a day when I was expecting nothing.

The sap is between 2.5-3.0%

Put in my taps on Sat. and got some sap on Monday. I hung 13 buckets and got 4 gallons. Don't have the equipment to test sugar.

I may be jumping the gun but as many of you will understand, I have a new (to me) evaporator and I am jonesing to give her a test drive.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Sapbrush. Hope you feel better in time to get some sugaring in. Just finished tapping here in Ashby. Put in 200 or so on Monday and finished tapping today. Count is just over 300. We're ready for the first run. Hope you all have a good season.

I put in my final tap today (its at my fathers house) Man you guys weren't kidding about those field trees. The sap was running down my arm as I was putting the tap in. I don't have any equipment but I gave the sap a taste and it was notably sweeter then any of my trees at home.

Makes me sad they took down the trees twin in their backyard :(
