Yup, I am here in Moncton. Looks like this is the week but then next 2 weeks are seasonal so I probably wont tap until the first week of march. Mostly because I am not quite ready yet:cry:

Its been more than a decade since I have ssen this much snow. Another 50 cm in the next week ofrecast too. I hope spring doesn't hit to fast because by the time the tree thaws (8' of snow around it right now) it will be budding.

Looks like our season will be starting in another week or two. Can't wait to try out my new gear. This is my first year with lines and I made a sap puller that seems to work fairly well (holds about 12" of mercury). My new pan should be ready to pick up next week as well. I'll post some pics once everything is set up, Im sure the homemade sap puller will make you guys smile:lol:

Tapped 370 yesterday after digging out some of the lines, all is well and the sap was trickling. expect decent flow today, -9 last night and beautiful sunshine today with positive temps. every thing has been washed just have to replace the chiminey on the evaporator today and were all set. Today even feels like a spring day.

Wow, thats great news, I didnt think sap would be flowing yet. I think I will set up a bucket tonight afterwork. Thats a pretty nice sugar shack, what are you using for an evaporator

presently using a 2x6 wood fired hobby size, it just makes it except when we get a relly big flow.

Thanks for the welcome, located just outside Baddeck. Sap was running yesterday, and as the day warmed up today it was just starting to run when I left the sugar shack. hope to have a boil in the next couple of days. Dumped a bit of the first flow just to freshen up the lines, looking forward to a great season.

We completed tapping last Wednesday. I'm early for the first time in a long time!
Total now is 275 taps.
Gathered 100 litres of sap from the Saturday/Sunday run. Not quite enough to prime the evaporator but we'll see when more comes. The snow took a beating today and the trees must be finally starting to thaw with the mild weather. Should be some sap toward the end of the week.
Wishing a good season to all!
Darren

WOW thats pretty good for 275 taps. I got 62 in this year but only got 7 gallons of sap over the weekend. looks like not all my trees are sapping yet. I sure hope my season produces like your trees do. GOOD LUCK

Thanks Sniperdodo!
Once your Moncton snow melts and you can see the trunks of your trees the sap will come. Patience, my friend!

I am up on the north shore (Chapman Settlement) we got 10 cm of snow yesterday and last night, still a couple of feet of snow in the woods in spots. We boiled 70 gallons of sap off Saturday and 30 gal. on Wednesday and it started running again this afternoon. There should be one good week left then some small runs after that.
