Last year I built a new storage barn w/attached woodshed and sugarhouse. I managed to get it all closed in, just in time for the sap to start flowing in the spring.
Now I'm working on phase 2 of the construction -- some finishing touches. I bought nine old window sashes and have been stripping and painting them a couple at a time. I built "picture frame" style casing for them and have installed the first five. Sure is nice to see all that natural light coming in!
I'm now contemplating how to finish the cupola. It's 2 ft wide by 4 ft long. I was originally going to do traditional drop down doors with pulleys to open/close. I've since started thinking about fixed louvers instead, with screens behind to keep birds out. I've put facia board on but have left the sofits open and will probably screen in. Anybody else done something similar? Pros? Cons? My biggest concerns are additional condensation and loss of draft.
