Has anyone hooked up the optional blower to a W.F. Mason 2 x 3?
Your thoughts is it worth the cost?
Thanks

From thoughts that have the blower installed, where does the air flow enter the evaporator? I'm only asking because from W.F Masons website it looks to be blowing into the ash tray under the fire box. There by forcing air up through the grate..
Thanks again.

My air enters into fire box under grates. Its aimed at the natural air vent, so I just put couple fire bricks against it to hold it fairly closed. I have 2 old oil burner motors gutted out, they both go into a pvc Y then one 4" tube into fire box. I have switches that run each one, when firing I only use one blower, when doors closed they both run.

By blowing under the vent, into the ash drawer. Would that not just blow all ash up into the stove pipe? Just a little confused about the dangers of blowing hot ash sparks out the stove pipe. What about clogging the stove pipe over time?
WIth the WF Mason 2x4, what would one run for a sap depth? I ahve heard anywhere from 3/4" to 2"

Hi I have a 18x 48 D@G so were pretty close to same size. Ive had a blower on it for the last 3 yrs. I have it fitted in to ash pan to blow the air up thru the grates no problems thus far. I usally run my sap depth@ about 1inch to 1 and a half inches, utill I shut down then I flood it to over 2 inches with everything off. It will usally evap down to about a inch and ahalf in the pan Good Luck

I just added a blower to my Leader half Pint and it increased my boiling volume a bunch. I have only done three small boils, so I don't know what the numbers are yet for when I've brought it to high heat and run for hours. The first indications are I may double my volume. I am adding the air in the firebox, not in the ash pan. My wife's uncle is a blacksmith and he helped me set it up. He insisted I blow my air right into the middle of the fire at an angle so it swirls. He said all I'd do is burn extra wood putting air under the fire. So far I love it, I'd say do it on any size evaporator. It gets the most out of your wood. The next week will tell, as southern Ohio will be in the 40s and 50s and the evaporator will be hopping. There's just something special about a predawn firing....
buckeyegold, good job. sounds like your are enjoying it! and your right, heading to the sugarhouse pre dawn and firing up must be awesome!

I run my mason 2x6 as low as I can keep it. Come to think of it, I never really asked how low or high to run it when I purchased it. I just figured the lower you run it the less energy you waste. I just start with about an inch of sap in the whole thing and one it gets up to a boil, I start slowly adding from my pre-heater. whatever you do, dont let it get too low. Thats bad.
