What are the FLA ratings of a vacuum pump suitable for a 500 to 1000 tap operation. I would most likely end up starting with a used dairy type pump. Also how noisy are these pumps? Do most people keep them away from there sugar house?

your fla will depend on the size of the motor, you would probably be looking at a 2,3,5 hp motor on an old vac pump which would be 12,17,28 fla respectivly at 220 volts. here is a link to a website with a chart for more sizes. the noise level on an old vein pump is a little annoying if its in the sugarhouse, some have mufflers which help.
