Anyone using one of these?
Vitapur Model #VPS1140. Two 20" filters (one carbon, one 5 micron sediment filter) and UV light. All in one unit.
Rated at 8GPM.
Any ideas on cost if new? One locally is for sale.
Was going to hook up to re-circulate with my main storage tank at shanty before sending sap upto feed tank.
I skimmed other UV posts and trying to decide if I want to go down this road.
...not doing much in the bush today...-25C plus wind.

not sure about the uv but I remember from prior posts that those kind of filters are a breeding ground for bacteria and there is no way to clean them. I remember someone here did try to use one and found that they got slimy real fast.

Not sure on that specific filter but I believe you can not use charcoal/carbon filter on sap.

plan on taking out the carbon filter and putting in a 2nd sediment filter. Sounds like I have to buy new ones every other day.

I use the spun cotton filters for the sap infeed to the head tank. I tried the carbon filter but it plugged up within 300 gallons. The cotton one got really nasty after a day or two. I was only intrested in filtering out the bugs and beer cans so I will try a screen next. They do turn black and add bacteria after awhile. If I pump into the feed tank its getting cooked within 1 hr.

The UV in household units is a waste of time and money for sap. The exposure time is too low as the sap passes through and the sap difuses the UV because of the sugars and will not penetrate. There are losts of other posts about this. You need a very strong light source slow flow to be beneficial.
I second what Haynes reported. I tried a GE whole house filter and by the second day it was yellow and reeked. If you want to use one, you need to run it like the filters in an RO, a new one every day.

Thanks for the opinions lads. I had my doubts anyways and your opinions firmed that up. I also wasn't too excited about putting in new filters every other day or whatever.
I phoned a producer down the road for his two cents and he ended up having an older Bernard sap filter for sale with extra felt liners. So I pounced on that sale.
