We are constructing a new building(20X28) to house our hobby processing. Between my father and me we have accumulated enough stuff to "set up shop" for smoking, making sausages and hotdogs, extracting honey from our hives and the maple thing. All these items have been stored in various basements and shop corners but now are headed for a new home. My question is if you were constructing an arch in a building would you build a steel framed unit as is sold commercially or build a masonry one of brick and refractory? Im leaning toward brick as I am a powerhouse maintenance foreman and get all the refractory items for almost nothing and it would seem to be the more stable of the two.

A simple angle steel frame with sheet metal skins is light, strong and simple to make. There are some nice designs available on the trader. You still need some refractory brick or blanket for insulation, so your connections for cheap stuff are still very valuable.
