I am in the process of building a moisture trap, based off one that theron made, though i really didn't pay attention to the fine detail of his, which I guess I should have. Anyways I do have some questions about mine, after reading some of the other posts. I included a picture so hopefully you can read it. Where should I take the line out that goes to the vacuum pump, out of the top or out the one side? I was going to just go in and out on the sides, but then I read haynes post about vacumm should leave higher then what it should come in, so should I take the vacuum out the top? Also the releaser is going to be about 400' feet from pump, I was planning on putting the moisture trap down by the releaser right? Or should it be next to the pump? Since I was planning on putting the moisture trap next to the releaser, I was planning on putting a ball valve on either side of moisture trap, to shut off vaccuum to it, to be able to drain it if need be with without shutting down vacuum pump, can I do this?

Is it glued together? I like the use of the sanitary fittings BUT with incoming vacuum air right next to the exiting vacuum air I think it will mix. Having the air liquid mix so close together it will get to the pump. Remember that you need to drain the trap every day and check it without vacuum on it to see if you are getting sap down the line. Checking it with vacuum will only blow air in and give a false reading.

Alright, thanks for the information, No it is not glued togther yet (though it should be I am running behind....again)So I will just try and move the outlet a bit further up from the inlet.

You might also be better if the barrel is larger. Bring the inlet down, have a bigger diameter chamber and draw the vac off the top. If you put a valve just below the inlet, you can close that and drain with vac still on. Remember, too much water in trap will freeze and ruin the trap. Drain near end of day when freeze is coming.

Turn the whole thing around 180 degrees then remove the valve and put it on the left side. Now that your wondering what the heck I just said forget it cause I was kidding. I would definatley have vac port higher than the port to the releaser. I am however pondering if having it by the pump would be better than by the releaser but when I have issues with decisions I do both. Just seems to me that any water vapor within that 400 feet of pipe from the pump to the moisture trap has no where to go but in the pump and on the other side of it if that pipe fills up with moisture down by the releaser how much would it restrict the vacume, so personally I would put one at both ends cheap enough to make and doubles your security.
