I am hoping to put about 150 on vacume next season (2012). I friend says he will sell me an older Delaval 1.5hp vacume pump for $50. is this the correct type pump to start with or should i just pass on it. sorry to be vague but i'm really new to all this.

Just buy it! In good working order you could re-sell it and easily triple your money, that's assuming it wouldn't work for you, which I think it will

Buy it, for what I have been told any vac on the trees is better than none.
It may not be able to run above 20" of vac with out flooding it with oil but it should get you at least to 15-18"
When you get a chance take a few pics for us to look at. There will almost certainly be someone here that will be able to tell you what you have.

That sounds like a good deal for a pump. I think it would work for your 150 taps. As long as it runs and produces vacuum BUY It:)

1.5 hp is probably a Deleval 73? Pump and motor for $50 - grab it!

Yes Get it running and stick the palm of your hand over the intake pipe. If it feels like its pulling the chrome off a trailer hitch your good to go:lol::rolleyes: A guage will tell all you want to know but it should feel like one hell of a shop vac. I say get it and have fun.
Yes you should get it. I would be on that like fly's on poop:lol:
