In Michigan $3.89 a bushel, 54 lbs per bushel you do the math.

A little out of season now isn't it? Most of us are looking at syrup prices with interest. ;)

Shane,
Nice grain cart! Tracks and all. Go big or go home? Combines not bad either! Wish we could get corn for $3.89 bushel around here.

you may want to check the chicago board of trades website. lots of commodities are based on their prices.

Lee,

I asked my dad and he always figured 29 bushel of shell corn in a ton of cob corn, using the 70lbs ratio. i.e. 14 lbs. of cobs come from 56 lbs. of shell corn. Thats at 15% moisture and 56 lbs. a bushel. There would be a different adjustments if the corn is lighter and/or wetter. $3.93 a bushel shelled out east........WHOA, thats a lot lower than here. At the ethanol plant 12 miles from me they are paying something around $5.50 a bushel shelled @15.5%. http://www.westernwisconsinenergy.com/

Assuming 29 bushel of shell corn in a ton of ear corn @$3.93 = $114/ton

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""@$5.50 = $159.50/ton

Hope this helps.

I was at a farm and home store today: 4.5 lbs ear corn/ 6 cobs = $2.99 per bundle for the squirrels.

$46.51 per bushel or $1,348.79 per ton.

Hopefully you can get the above price, but would likely depend on which end of the corn crib you are on. Tee-hee.

Speaking of picked corn and sugar shacks---
I put in three acres of corn each year for the deer. We have done this for over thirty years.
Now with the shack and to better utilize it in the off season, (lean managment) I am thinking of making a still. I have always wanted to dabble in the chemistry it takes to make moonshine using the corn for corn liquor. I have a great well with lots of ice cold water.
Any of you boys tinkered with making corn whisky?
I see there are many books on the subject on Amazon but someone with experience would be helpful.
