Is it worth putting a steam hood on.
Currently use a leader 2x4. Thinking of putting a steam hood on the rear pan and leaving the front open. Is it worth it?

Why not ? Put a hood on it make a pre heater increase your gph. Every little bit helps.

If you add a preheater, it would be worth the additional investment. As far as a steam hood, it will not increase your gph unless you have a problem with too much steam inside your sugarhouse.

I agree with Brandon, without a pre-heater it's an expense with no gain. But with a proper sized pre-heater it is benificial.

You can expect a 10% increase with a preheater

If you are wanting to get a big gph increase, go with a blower and an airtight front or at least a blower. Will give you a huge gph increase! :D
